Monday, February 27 2012

Mark overcame illness to win the 195km Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne one day race in Belgium on Sunday 26th February.

Thanks to his team-mates, especially Chris Sutton who perfectly delivered Mark to within 250m of the white line. Mark did what he does best and powered out in front to victory by a comfortable margin.

After the race Cav said, “When I got to the final corner, I knew we’d win”

Mark was delighted to win the Belgian Classic for the first time having made it one of his early season targets.

As always Mark was quick to praise his team-mates as he spoke to Belgian TV by saying, “It’s incredible, I don’t know if I can take credit”

“The team worked the whole day for me. The break went, when we got it back, they started riding immediately and just stayed there to the finish. I’m so proud.”

Mark’s next race is the Tirreno-Adriatico stage in Italy which he will use to prepare for Milan – San Remo, where he hopes to win in his Rainbow Jersey.
